FRT  Policy

Welcome to Porters

What this policy is about
This Facial Recognition Technology Policy (FRT Policy) describes how Baranagar Pty Ltd ATF The Plainland Hotel Holdings Family Trust (we, us or Hotel) collects and uses information obtained from the use facial recognition technology (FRT).

Who this policy applies to
This policy applies to all patrons of the Hotel who enter Hotel premises.

Meaning of FRT
"FRT" involves the extraction, digitisation and comparison of spatial and geometric facial data and then comparing the image of the face with an image stored in a database to identify a match.  We use "one-to-many FRT" which compares the facial image of a patron to a large dataset of other patrons taken from our CCTV camera surveillance.

Why we use FRT
We use FRT to identify persons who have been banned from the Hotel for misconduct issues or who have been excluded from access to the Hotel's gambling machines pursuant to Queensland law, and to prevent their entry to the Hotel and/or remove them if they have entered.  Our CCTV cameras and FRT are not used to identify any other persons.

The Hotel implemented the use of FRT as an operational tool to help it comply with its obligations under applicable Queensland liquor and gaming laws and to provide a safe place of employment and entertainment pursuant to the Hotel's duty of care.

Use of signage
The Hotel displays signage in the vicinity of each area where facial recognition data is collected.

Access to and storage of facial recognition data
Facial recognition information collected by the Hotel will only be accessed and dealt with by authorised Hotel staff members who have received appropriate training.

Storage of facial recognition data
Facial recognition information collected by the Hotel is stored in a secure manner and is retained only for banned or excluded patrons.  All facial recognition information collected about other patrons is deleted.

Your consent
By entering the Hotel premises, you are deemed to have consented to your facial image being recorded by the Hotel's FRT system and used for the purposes specified in this FRT Policy.  We may also use and disclose data collected from our FRT system for any other purpose permitted by law, such as law enforcement or if requested by public authorities (such as a court or a government agency).

Hotel Privacy Policy
This FRT Policy should be read in conjunction with the Hotel's Privacy Policy which deals with how we collect and manage personal information.  That policy can be found here.

Changes to this FRT Policy
We may update this FRT Policy from time to time and will notify you of any changes by posting the new FRT Policy on this page.  You are advised to review this FRT Policy periodically for any changes.  Changes to this FRT Policy are effective when they are posted on this page.

Privacy Act 1988
We comply with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and any other applicable law that relates to the collection and management of information obtained from the use of FRT.
